Press releases v.s. article wrting

I never did a press release but have written many articles. Is a press release better for marketing than article writing?

Press Release should be a message or announcement to public regarding product or offers or services. But Article need not to be an announcement, it is simple contents about what you wish to write.

A press release is more of an announcement of something you've done, like an event or assisted with a charity. An article is to share your knowledge with your audience.

If you are think about business then yes press release is good then article but for back link both are same......
